A student brawl is a form of collective social behavior of adolescent aberration and aggressive behavior resulting from group conformity as they usually use their school uniform in the middle of battlefield  and it is common teenage behavior problem in our country, but it has been a hot topic since the latest news told that a student brawl from 2 favorite senior high school in Jakarta fought each other and claimed two lives . Furthermore , there have been increasing in number rather than decreasing.  The National Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) recorded at least 128 school brawl cases in 2010, which rose to 339 last year. The brawls claimed 82 lives last year, up from 40 in 2010.

As these problem never solved yet getting worse , we should re-evaluate character education in our country. Character education should be a harmony synergy among schools, families, communities and the government as the stakeholders of national education. This is because character , rather than taught , it is shaped. Ki Hajar Dewantara, the founding father of national education, has bequeathed to us a prophetic motto: “Ing ngarso sung tuladha; ing madya mangun karsa; tut wuri handayani,” which means “Provide a model; create an intention; and give constructive support.”  His philosophy is still relevant until now and it has been a mission from the minister of education .

Student brawls problem in our country is not simple and  can't be solved in a short time . The reason why they fighting each other is not clear. I asked my friends who often got involved in student brawls , they said they do brawls to prove their school "existence" among the other school that got involved in the student brawls world and they feel proud  of theirselves if they win the battle. Nevertheless, sometimes they just met and start to attack their school's "enemy" and the other times they just made appointment to fight .

If we try to look for the positive effect of student brawls , we may have some, but it still bring many negative effect. Example, Solidarity of the students from some schools to protect each other ,and  they usually make alliance to make their "army" bigger. Nonetheless, no matter how close two people might, if they were from different school in the middle of student brawl conflict, they have to fight each other. Some people think that brawl is the fastest problem solving , but in fact, student brawls between two school will never be finished and if the conflict between two school finished, they will fight other school to prove their existence.

We have to solve this teenager problem with reevaluating our character education as mentioned above. Beside of blaming the education system, i think that mentoring is the most effective way to solve this  because  my former high school , SMAN 1 Depok once was involved in student brawls and it has been changed dramatically since mentoring was came to the school. Mentoring is effective because they meet in small group and every week , so the improvement from the mentee can be measured. Furthermore, mentoring is easy to do , mild and fun content that makes everybody may join and enjoy it. Nonetheless, family and school is the most influencing environment for students to seek their character, i said "seek" because character can't be learned , but sought with guide of parents and teacher.

Student brawl indeed is an ingrained problem ,but  if we really wanted to solve this problem , there will be a chance , even it will take a long time and requires patience. To solve this problem, government has to reevaluate character education system. Families have to take care of their child better , and schools have to make positive character education from curriculum or extracurriculum better. If we do these things together, sooner or later, i believe this problem will be solved.
